Project 8: Kinetic Communication Model

By projecting this communication model in an interactive way is different from a printed version because I have arranged what things I want the user or the viewer to see when the roll over or click on a certain button and which information is visible, which allows for more clarity. There is more information that is being included by using an interactive way. By having interactive elements it has the viewer be more interested. The motion of the message as well as noise will draw interest to the viewer which is not so clear , or shown in my printed version. If this were to be launch on the World Wide Web since the information these days allows for more accessibility and people are more drawn to these that have immediacy and that are on the internet, rather than print. The viewer takes a role in this communication process, which in the long run we are ll communicators and receivers of messages.

Project 7 Part A&B: Logo Build and Artifact for KC Pro Health

One thing is to learn the theory about narrative as you come across the different ways that you can structure a narrative and having control of the climax or problem and then resolution as well as the duration that these events and the impact in the viewer and their perception can be changed based on their connotative or experiences and what it reminds them of. Using the various communication channels such as image, voice, music, text, sound effects not only keeps the interest of the viewer but these channels trigger images and their own personal experiences but using more than one channel reinforces your message therefore having more control of the message that you want to tell the viewer. Motion , duration and transitions allow for a smooth changes between frames and allows for the various concepts to be connected with duration I realized that an image doesn't have to stay for that long to have an impact on the viewer. Design principles such as rhythm, emphasis and contrast allow for climatic moments to have a greater impact, by having a sequence be the same rhythm and the same tone yet when emphasis and contrast things are point out and the rhythm is changed. Direction and motion how things come into the frame when things are motion, as well how elements come into the frame and leave the frame. Through storyboarding, planning and production, through this process allows to have a general overview of the approach that needs to be taken and therefore have a bit more control of the storyline. Through this process and this project I have learned about 3-D in after effects which has been really interesting as well as editing.

Logo Build Story Board

After meeting with Ian, Bethany, Loren and Keaton and reflecting on my story boarding for my 5 second-logo build they all felt that I should have the elements run into the stage. A couple of my ideas involved the breaking apart all the elements yet for the context and in the context of human it will look like some dismember. Keaton also suggested the use of opacity and overlay as a quality of speed.

Project 5: Combined Narrative KC Pro Health Community Runners

Project 5 : Combined Narrative from Karen Villalba on Vimeo.

The two combination of text and voice to create a combined to give more information about KC Pro Health Community Runners. Through the process of combining these two elements so that they worked together taken into account the critiques given to each of the individual channel. On my last project 4 in which I used text jogging into stage yet the up and down movement was not evident and in this this refinement of the channel I tried to add that motion to create the effect of running more evident. I had some brands in my previous version but on this version the words are all generic and terminology for runners wardrobe. I added "spandex" for a second individual to be on the stage since it suited the sound considering that they are two different people speaking through voice my other channel. I learned through this process the value of editing considering what was important or what the information that I wanted people to hear, considering that my sound piece was a 41 second clipped and then my text a 10 second. In my sound critique was mentioned that I should remove the second mentioned of "the cute guys on the trail" which I felt that in my final piece it made more concise. The relationships created using both of these channels in my animation, allowed for the words depicting wardrobe to have a meaning and with the dialogue give the impression of 2 people running on the trail. My text animation was very simple and therefore by having audio and explaining the role KC Pro Health Community Runners which allows for networking and safety and is easy to join that is even accessible on their site. The color of the text was to reflect both of feminine voices that are heard on the sound selection.

Project 5: Combined Narrative

For this approach my previous project meaning project 3 and project 4 will be combined to form a single narrative using 2 channels text and sound. Based on the critiques from my previous projects, the text on the extended narrative and it has to reflect more the motion of running as well the brand names Nike and New balance will be removed so the overall piece has more of a consistency. In regards to the sound, I will edit the second motion of "cute boys on the trail." I will shift some laughter so it doesn't look so rehearse or planned out.

Undestanding Comics by Scott Mc Cloud

After, the reading Understanding Comic by Scott Mc Cloud , it showed me the importance of the interaction between the viewer has with a narrative and how the viewer creates closure .
For instance in the example above he makes clear how the mind and the participation of the viewer is essential in creating legs while they are not in the frame. Closure is essential for the viewer and is the agent of of change time and motion the participation of the viewer is very important. A shape or outline can triggered closure, but by having this interaction with the viewer in which they do to also have to playa role is the way a viewer can keep himself interested and attentive in the reading. In the reading he describes various transitions to bring closure to the viewer which are :
Moment to moment
action to action
scene to scene
subject to subject
aspect to aspect
non- sequitor
These transitions happen between the gutter and how is carried to the next scene. This reading showed me that sometimes you don't have to show so much because if is recognizable to the viewer their interaction and their role can finish the narrative. I want to use more of the abstract transitions because I feel that the topic of running is recognizable.

Logo Sketches for KC Pro Health Community Runners

Primary Ideas

Finalized Ideas

NA Project 3: Detail Narrative

For this third project I wanted to explore the use of voice to create for the viewer/ listener the experience of running along the trail and describing the benefits of being in this community club. Through this channel I learned that is very important to have sound effects such as the environment to give more details in the story and be able to place the dialog in context.
It was interesting that through the dialog facts were given about the group, but it was interesting this exploration because imagery or text were not used as the channels yet through the voice, tone, and the surrounding noises created the imagery of these runners along the trail having a conversation. I feel that is more abstract than something more concrete like an image, diagram or text that is in front of the viewers eyes.

I constructed the narrative through placing the viewer in the place and location or mise-en-scene by using the surrounding sounds and these props like the car passing a change in time. As well as the feet and their pace reflect duration. Is a dialog through two runners there is an interaction as well as the change of time is reflected through the dialog and conversation between the runners reflect also reflect the change through time.

Project 3 Extended Narrative: KC Pro Health Community Runners

Villalba_ NA_PROJECT3_ KC PRO HEALTH RUNNING by user7976942

For this piece I choose to explore voice. I wanted to capture the experience of running in the trail from the diagram in my poster. I selected women to reflect their experience in the group and why they should join the KC Pro Health Community Runners. Promoting the Program and clearly direct to the audience which are college students.
